- Focus on the "big ideas" or overall expectation rather than a specific expectation
- Provide open-ended problems that are complicated and do not have clear solutions
- Use real life examples and topics of interest to your students

- Use a variety of grouping methods. E.g. pairs, small groups, individual
- Create and monitor specialized learning centres
- Motivate and encourage students to take risks
- Provide learning opportunities for students to be creative and think 'outside the box'
- Teach and encourage independent learning skills such as research methods and organization
Differentiating the Product:
- Encourage students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways
- Celebrate different learning styles by allowing a variety of products
- Create the success criteria with your students
- Create assignments that are authentic and reflect student interest
- Match the product to the outcomes being met. E.g. success criteria
